We went to visit the pig breeder today to pick up our cute little female piglet. We learned quite a bit about pigs! The breeder said that these pigs are a hybrid mini-Polynesian pig, bred for generations to get down to this 25-50 pound adult size. The mother pig weighs about 30 pounds and the father pig weighs about 50. According to the breeder, they are a bit larger than the ones kept as pets, because they are fed a higher protein diet to stay in breeding shape. In the pictures above (click to see larger), the mother of the piglet we have is in the far left photo and she's hiding behind the father. The female in front of the male is pregnant, and there will be more available in the near future. In the middle picture, our piglet's mother is running off to the other side of the pen. Our piglet, pictured in the last photo above, is 7.5 weeks old right now and is eating 12% protein feed and is just weaning off being bottle-fed goat's milk. She's very inquisitive and very cute: stop by and see her or visit our 'For Sale' page if you've just gotta have her now!
